* Short_abstract Leaf functional traits play a crucial role in resource acquisition strategies, directly influencing community productivity. This dataset includes leaf dry matter content (LDMC), specific leaf area (SLA), leaf nitrogen content (LNC), leaf carbon content (LCC), and the leaf carbon to nitrogen ratio (C). The data were collected from the Sardinilla experiment conducted in May and June of 2017.

Extensive_description_of_the_dataset Leaf samples were collected in May and June 2017. C. alliodora was excluded due to high mortality. Trees with inaccessible crowns (>8 m above ground), trees with very narrow vertical crowns and those where sampling at different height levels was not feasible were also excluded. Leaves from up to 11 individuals per species per plot were collected at different height levels with their outer canopy. Leaves were further processed to get leaf dry matter content (LDMC), specific leaf area (SLA), leaf nitrogen content (LNC), leaf carbon content (LCC), and the leaf carbon to nitrogen ratio (C).
